Periodontal “around the tooth” disease attacks the gums and the bone that support the teeth. It is caused by Plaque (a sticky film made of debris, bacteria, and saliva) and Tartar (mineralized plaque). If the disease is caught in the early stages of gingivitis one to two regular cleanings will be recommended. If the disease has advanced, a deeper cleaning will be recommended and is usually completed in two visits. Once your deep cleaning has been completed, it is recommend that you have regular maintenance cleanings usually four times a year.
